History

This is the first edition of the Symposium on Materials and Technologies for the Metalworking and Aerospace Industries in a SAM/CONAMT Congress. The main goal of this Symposium is to address topics mainly related to the obtaining, processing and disposal of materials and the related technologies. Different Argentinian regions, such as the Province of Córdoba, and in particular its metropolitan area have industries related to practical applications of materials. The aerospace industry, that builds aircrafts, rockets and satellites; the metalworking industry with the manufacture of cars, trucks and components and all the industries related to agricultural machinery and equipment, are among the most important. Another relevant topics considered in this Symposium are minerals extraction and treatment, the development of biomaterials, surgical instruments, elastomers, plastics, composites and ceramics. The diversity and specificity of these industries gave rise to products and services ranging from casting and production to recycling and/or final disposal of materials, requiring the development and use of specific software for modelling processes and predicting the outcome. The region of Córdoba is further characterized for having a high concentration of universities, technical colleges, research centres and laboratories which have helped to develop a critical mass of researchers, professionals and technicians with the appropriate training and expertise in the industry and technology of materials.

For these reasons, the primary objectives of this Symposium are to obtain the attention of the industry, education and applied research sectors, to provide an appropriate environment for the dissemination and access to the technological knowledge and to strengthen and expand the networking between professionals in related topics.
